Steel Building Colour Guide: Choosing The Perfect Colour

Steel Building Colours

When designing your steel building, there are many factors that you need to consider, including the size, the roof style, insulation requirements, door sizes, and so on. But one of the most important things you need to consider is the steel building colour.

Because steel buildings are typically used as practical and working buildings, the aesthetics of the building can often be overlooked. But with a wide range of steel building colours available, you can create a building that works great but also looks great!

In this guide, we will share all of Vanguard Steel Buildings’s colour options, along with the most popular colours, combinations, and customisations.

Why choosing the right colour is important

There are a number of reasons why choosing the right colour is important – from appearance to environmental considerations. Here’s why we think it’s an important decision:

  • Aesthetics – Quite simply, you want your building to look good. Since all colours are the same cost, you might as well pick one that you think looks good.
  • Property value – An attractive exterior can significantly enhance the building’s resale value and appeal to potential buyers.
  • Branding – If you’re purchasing a building for business purposes, choosing brand colours can help people identify the building.
  • Energy efficiency – Lighter colours reflect sunlight, and darker colours absorb heat. With insulated steel buildings, this is less of a consideration.
  • Environmental surroundings – Appropriate colour choices can help comply with local regulations and blend with the building’s surroundings.
  • Maintenance – Some colours are easier to maintain and keep looking good over time with minimal effort.

Vanguard Steel Buildings Cladding & Flashing Colour Chart

At Vanguard Steel Buildings, we have 25 different colour options which can be used to customise your building. Your colour choice does not change the cost of your building.

Steel Building Colour Chart

There are 6 key areas of a steel building that can be customised by colour. They are:

  • Walls – The cladding running up the sides of the building to the eaves. You can choose any colour from the chart above.
  • Roof – The cladding on the roof of the building. You can also choose any colour from the chart above.
  • Flashings – Used to protect your building from water ingress. They are sheets that are folded to cover the joints, such as the roof ridge, the corners and the eaves. They can be any colour from the chart and are often used to create a two-tone style.
  • Doors – Roller doors and PA doors also come in all of the colour variations above.
  • Guttering – If you have plastic guttering, you can choose black or grey. If you decide to go for the slightly more expensive trimline look, you can choose from all of the colours.
  • Windows – Windows come in white or anthracite.

What are the most popular steel building colours?

As you can see, there are a huge number of customisation options available. But don’t let that overwhelm you. Although all of our colours look great, there are some clear favourites that get ordered time and time again.

Our customers usually opt for either a single colour for all parts of their building (e.g., Juniper Green for walls, roof, doors, guttering, and flashings) or two colours, using a different colour for the flashings to create contrast (e.g., Merlin Grey for walls, roof, doors, and guttering, with Slate Blue for the flashings).

Here are a couple of example:

This is one of the classic car garages in our online shop. This one is all Juniper Green, but with a standard metal doors (uncoloured).
